It’s so important as a working mom to have a village. Mine includes my mother. She’s a teacher at a year-round school, so she has weeks off periodically throughout the year. This morning, she came over to play with my daughter while I got some work done on a special project my business partner, Elise Crawford Gallagher, and I will be announcing soon.
It’s a win-win-win. My daughter loves her grandmother, my mom loves hanging out with her granddaughter, and I get a couple of hours of work time at the time of day when I have the most creative energy.
Who’s in your village? Are you still working on building yours? Let me know in the comments!

My Favorite Content This Week:
This Bustle article was a great perspective on (though, as a secular publication, they don’t call it that) spiritual motherhood and leadership. TL;DR: Don’t burn yourself out, and maintain boundaries!
The “Lord of the Rings” movies are some of my favorite films, and the book is also one of my favorites. When I was in high school and the movies were coming out, I didn’t understand why Frodo was unable to destroy the ring. Why would Tolkien end the story that way? As I got older, I understood more. This blog post by Fr. Stephen Freeman is a nice look at this question.
Apparently, I’m just going to share every
newsletter I have access to, because they’re all fantastic. This month’s was about how God doesn’t necessarily want us to be comfortable.
Books I’ve Enjoyed:
I highly, highly recommend Never Enough: When Achievement Culture Becomes Toxic-and What We Can Do About It, by Jennifer Breheney Wallace to parents, teachers, or anyone who has children in your life that you have influence over. I checked it out from the library, but we may buy our own copy to reference over the years.
